The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV is an electric pickup truck. Compare it to the Rivian R1T and the Ford F-150 Lightning.
It brings a lot to the table, for a hefty price. The 2025 Silverado EV earns a TCC Rating of 8.2 out of 10 thanks to its good range estimates, comfortable demeanor, and plentiful technology (Read more about how we rate cars.)
After a limited intro last year, the Silverado EV grows to a full lineup including a more work-oriented WT (Work Truck) version and a mid-level model called LT that Chevy says is eligible for up to $7,500 in federal rebates.
The Silverado EV has far more in common with the GMC Hummer EV pickup and the GMC Sierra EV than it does with the gas- or diesel-powered Silverado 1500. It comes only as a crew cab, with handsome, relatively sleek styling that includes sail panels integrated between its cab and the bed. They’re there to enhance aerodynamics—and style. The cabin is light on clutter and high on practicality, even though the Work Truck versions we’ve driven have been very basic. We’ve sat in an RST and can report that it’s nicer, if not exactly what many of us expect out of a nearly six-figure truck.
These heavy trucks—a light one weighs north of 8,600 pounds—are pretty light on their feet in base form. Top-end versions have up to 765 lb-ft of torque, which delivers a 0-60 mph sprint in the mid three-second range. That’s darn fast. They’re also as smooth and quiet as we’ve come to expect from electric vehicles.
Underneath, the fully independent suspension conspires with all that mass to pummel the road below. We’ve yet to drive one with the big 24-inch wheels, though other models with 18-inchers have a comfortable, luxurious ride quality.
Maximum tow ratings vary by configuration, though this year the lineup tops out an impressive 12,500 pounds. These trucks are smart enough to adjust range estimates based on how much trailer is out back, too. The cargo bed can lug up to 1,800 pounds of stuff, too.
Range estimates vary greatly across the lineup. The base WT is the only one available with a Standard Range 119-kwh pack with an estimated range of 282 miles. The 170-kwh Extended Range pack available across all three models can go up to 422 miles, while the Max Range battery pack is good for as much as 492 miles on the WT. Look closely, though, as heavier higher-end models with bigger wheels have lower range estimates.
Inside, the Silverado EV has a spacious if hardly high-buck cabin. Hard black plastic lines every door panel and the dash in the WT, and all models have the same relentless black synthetic leather upholstery. LT and RST models are snazzier, but not by that much. There’s plenty of space, though, and the cabin features many well-positioned bins and pockets for drinks, devices, and whatever other detritus you might have.
The hood opens to reveal a weathertight 10.1 cubic-foot trunk with a drain plug. Out back, the 5-foot-11 bed can be expanded with a midgate that flops the partition between the bed and passenger compartment to offer enough length for 10-foot-11 items. This is one practical pickup.
Though the Silverado EV hasn’t been crash tested yet, these trucks have decent standard and impressive available driver-assistance and safety tech. You’ll find automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, and a sharp backup camera. Chevy parent GM’s Super Cruise system that allows for hands-off and eyes-on driving at highway speeds is available on higher-trim models.
How much does the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV cost?
Including a mandatory (and rather hefty) $2,095 destination charge, the lineup kicks off at $57,095 for the Work Truck. At that price, you’ll get 18-inch steel wheels, an 11.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, adaptive cruise control, cloth seats with manual adjustments, and an 11.5-kw on-board charger.
The lineup climbs quickly from there as you add more features, a faster charger, and a larger battery pack. It extends all the way to $97,895 for an RST with the Max Range pack, and options can get it into the six figures.
