What kind of vehicle is the 2025 Lexus TX? What does it compare to?
The Lexus TX is a three-row luxury crossover SUV. Compare it to the BMW X7, Volvo XC90, and Infiniti QX60.
Is the 2025 Lexus TX a good SUV?
It may be low on the excitement scale, but the 2025 Lexus TX is otherwise a well-conceived family-oriented three-row crossover SUV with good handling, many features, and appealing hybrid and plug-in hybrid configurations. It’s a 6.2 out of 10 on the TCC scale. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What’s new for the 2025 Lexus TX?
After debuting for 2024, the TX sees some notable tweaks for 2025. Every TX now includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The TX 350 with all-wheel drive is now available with an F Sport Handling package that includes adaptive dampers, 22-inch alloy wheels, special exterior styling, and a host of otherwise optional features.
The TX is a close relative to the Toyota Grand Highlander, though the two have distinct styling and powertrains. The TX wears its own version of the automaker’s unique spindle grille, which projects downward like a triangular version of a multi-blade razor. From the side, it’s a bit frumpy, though the elegant taillights look great. Inside, the TX has typical Lexus-grade luxury trim. Its 14.0-inch touchscreen sits up high, with secondary controls arranged in a pleasing fashion below. Depending on the trim level, the TX is available in a host of interior hues, too.
Base TX 350 models have a 2.4-liter turbo-4 rated at a plucky 275 hp sent to either the front or, optionally, all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The TX 500h uses the same engine, despite its different name, but it adds an electric motor and a big battery pack that provides marginally better and smoother power delivery. The rocketship of this lineup is the TX 550h+, which has a 3.5-liter V-6 paired with a big electric motor and battery good for a system output of 404 hp and downright rapid response to throttle inputs.
Fuel economy isn’t the TX 350’s best asset. Figure just 23 mpg combined, which isn’t great. The TX 500h is better at 27 mpg combined, which seems a reasonable tradeoff given its extra power output.
No Lexus TX has the kind of linear handling and response you might find in a BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz GLE, but these are nonetheless very comfortable and capable vehicles for the way most people will likely use them. F Sport configuration means big wheels counteracted by adaptive dampers, but little difference in terms of athleticism. Real-world comfort is the order of the day here.
The TX 550h+ is by far the most frugal version here, even if its purchase price will take ages to recuperate. It charges fairly quickly and can go up to 33 miles on a full charge, after which it’s rated at 29 mpg combined.
Inside, these crossover SUVs have great space in all three rows—a real achievement from a vehicle that will take up most of, but not all of, a typical garage. The front, middle, and third rows offer decent comfort for six passengers. Seven is a squeeze, though, so stick with the available captain’s chairs for the best space utilization.
Behind the seats, you’ll find good cargo space and a fairly low load floor. Additionally, Lexus tosses in nice materials including either the standard synthetic leather or the available real stuff. Top-end models have excellent semi-aniline hides, though they’re very expensive SUVs.
The 2025 TX has only had limited crash testing so far. All models come with the basics like automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitors, plus a few niceties such as adaptive cruise control, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and active lane control. A surround-view camera system and a more advanced adaptive cruise control system designed for high-traffic situations (cough, the 405, cough) are both available.
How much does the 2025 Lexus TX cost?
There are many different Lexus TX configurations, which start at $56,490 including a mandatory $1,350 destination charge. The lineup can climb quickly from there, though the $1,600 upcharge for all-wheel drive is quite modest. Hybrid versions start at $70,010 and the plug-in hybrid is $78,560.
Where is the 2025 Lexus TX made?
In Princeton, Indiana.
