Is the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse a good SUV?
The Traverse wears classy styling and it rides well. It’s a 6.7 out of 10 here. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What’s new for the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse?
After a redesign last year, the Traverse adds a new High Country trim level that adds standard leather seats that are heated and cooled up front, Bose audio, and most of the features that are optional on other Traverse trims. It’s also fitted with the brand’s trick Super Cruise hands-off driving technology.
The latest Traverse has traditional SUV lines, and it looks more rugged in Z71 guise with its red tow hooks, skid plate, and unique grille treatment.
Inside, the Traverse has a big 17.7-inch touchscreen that dominates the dash above a thin sliver of climate vents and controls. The wide center console below has a wireless smartphone charging pad and some big cupholders. While the base Traverse is pretty bland inside, the RS trim adds red and black panels that have a carbon-fiber effect we find appealing.
Traverses are powered by a 328-hp 2.5-liter turbo-4 that needs to be wound up for best acceleration. The 8-speed automatic transmission does a reasonable job of ensuring that the shifts are smooth, quiet, and predictable. Optional all-wheel drive offers some all-weather traction, but it takes stepping up to the Z71 for its higher ground clearance and twin-clutch rear axle for better traction and a hint of off-road ability. Properly equipped, the 2025 Traverse is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Traverses are heavy vehicles that ride well, especially with smaller wheels. It gets firmer with the available 22-inchers, which are simply too big and lack the kind of sidewall needed to mash out the road below.
Figure 23 mpg combined with front-wheel drive, or 21 mpg combined with all-wheel drive.
The Traverse has a big cabin with decent space behind the third row, which can accommodate adults in a pinch. Front- and middle-row riders will find good room all around.
All Traverses have good crash-avoidance tech as standard, though the automaker’s Super Cruise system is generally restricted to higher-end trim levels. It’s worthwhile for anyone who plans to use their Traverse as a mile-eater.
How much does the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse cost?
A base Traverse LT costs $41,995, and is pretty well-equipped. It has a big 17.7-inch touchscreen, Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and cloth seats that are heated up front. All-wheel drive costs $2,000. It’s our pick, but the $48,995 Traverse Z71 has a more assertive SUV stance and some fancy trim, while the $56,995 High Country leans heavily into richer trim while the $58,795 Traverse RS dons lots of blacked-out trim.
